Embark on a journey with me, a seasoned educator passionate about transforming the way we approach literacy. Currently, I'm an engaging high school English teacher at a cozy international school in South Korea. My adventure in teaching began in Seoul back in 2007, where I started as a pre-K and primary teacher. Since then, I've become a certified educator for K-6 and 6-12 English, even earning my Masters in Education in 2019 from the esteemed Culver-Stockton College. I also had the pleasure of teaching 9th and 10th grade ELA in sunny Charlotte County, Florida for a year.

While working with young learners in private academies in Seoul, I uncovered a critical gap in literacy education. Phonics programs fell short, lacking the progression and expansion necessary for true learning. I initially believed this to be a local issue, but soon discovered it was a global educational dilemma. This revelation sparked my drive to revolutionize early-stage literacy education, giving rise to the innovative GROW Reading philosophy and methodology.

In the following year, I fine-tuned this revolutionary system with my delightful group of 4-year-olds, affectionately known as the "Sparrows." Within just six months, these little birds soared, mastering short vowel sounds and tackling any letter combination. The GROW Reading method, coupled with synthetic phonics, empowered them to become swift readers, speakers, and writers. The astounding growth and capabilities they exhibited left me, my school, and their parents in awe.

For over a decade, I pondered the potential of this approach until I met Mikayla Peters, who recognized the value in GROW Reading and encouraged me to join forces. Together, we're on a mission to ignite a new era of education where students become proficient readers early on, preparing them for a brighter future. Just imagine a world where every child enters 1st grade as an accomplished reader!

Join us in making this dream a reality and experience the transformative power of GROW Reading for yourself.

I'm a seasoned curriculum creator and passionate educator on a mission to empower children through the magic of reading. With more than a decade of experience spanning across the United States, South Korea, and Singapore, I've had the privilege of teaching and inspiring students from diverse backgrounds and age groups.

My academic pursuits have taken me on an enriching journey, starting with a bachelor's degree in English Literature and German Studies from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. I then delved deeper into English Literature with a master's degree from the University of Denver, followed by a Master of Teaching from the University of Mississippi. My quest for knowledge didn't stop there—I went on to obtain a master's degree in Education and Advanced Teaching from the University of the People and finally, a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas Tech University.

At the heart of my career lies a steadfast dedication to helping children master the art of reading, particularly through the power of phonics instruction. My extensive experience teaching at various levels—from preschool to college—has granted me invaluable insights into the unique challenges that children face at different stages of their reading journey. I am particularly proud of my work with English Language Learners and neurodiverse learners, which has helped GROW Reading sculpt a curriculum that's truly inclusive and accessible to all.

As phonics creators, we've crafted an array of resources and materials tailored to make learning to read an engaging, effective, and enjoyable experience for children from all walks of life.
